What Inspires You? Episode 01

It’s the inaugural episode of a new monthly podcast hosted by me and my co-conspirator in all this Alternia chaos, Alarin Avaril.

In this episode we:

  • Set up the format for future episodes
  • Talk about what’s inspiring us and where we get our ideas
  • Discuss current projects and how we’re spending our time in Alternia
  • Spoiler Section: This time we discuss the Paragon Spirits in Alternia. What they are and where they came from.

Music for What Inspires You is the fiddle tune Canebreak off Haoma’s fiddle album Salt River. Kam’s a good friend of mine since high school.

If you’d like to tell us what inspires you, the fans of Alternia Comics, you can send us an email (inspire @ alterniacomics.com)

What Inspires You?

Either this weekend or next, Alarin and I are going to get together and record an episode that will become a regular feature here, taking the tag line of Alternia Comics as its title: What Inspires You?

If you’d like the answer that question, you can leave a comment here, or send us an email: karak@alterniacomics.com alarin@alterniacomics.com Soon there will be a voice mail line set up if you’d rather call in.

Episode 20 – Hammer and Axe

The rambling babble in the show explains more about the story. Suffice it to say, this is part one of another story set in Mystic Frontiers, the Alternian fantasy setting.

This story will eventually become part of the Wayfarer’s story. I could claim they were always going to be the same story, but that’s simply not true. Wayfarer was started because someone asked me to write a fantasy story. Hammer and Axe started because I liked the phrase “Hammer and Axe” and as I walked to lunch one day, my ankles were popping and my elbows cracked as I stretched, and I thought “I’m gettin old …” which became Hammer’s first line.

Some links before I say more about the story:

  • Children of the Gods – mentioned in the outro babble as part of why this episode has been delayed. I have two short lines in Episode 8, and a bigger part in the (currently) upcoming Episodes 9 and 9.5
  • AlterniaComics.com – New and improved! And still a work in progress … But if I link back there from here, maybe I can make the google bot dizzy. ;) (since the alterniacomics page links to here..)

Spoiler Alert!

Episode 19 – Zombies in the Quad

As promised, here’s the first part of Zombies in the Quad.

And now, it’s after midnight and I should be at work in a little over 8 hours…

Halloween Episode!

I promised a Halloween episode, and you’ll have one. Don’t worry. I’m just running a little behind at the moment.

Yesterday Cian over at View from the Quad asked for my help. This is the result, the VftQ Halloween Special!

New episode of Karak Speaks True coming up in the next few hours.

Episode 18 – Optinomicon Chapter 11

Can it be? Has Christmas come early this year? Is the Karak Speaks True hiatus finally over?!

Yes, at long last, I have returned to podcasting. Partly because I couldn’t let Steve over at Geek Cred catch up to me in episode numbers… I mean, he’s already up to Episode 15! But mostly because work has finally slowed down again. The company was “right sized” a few months back, then, surprise! we got a bunch of business and suddenly we have work enough for most of the people that were let go, but we’re not hiring them back. The animators got hit hardest. From seven down to three, and they were doing the work of six for a while.

Cian over at View From The Quad asked for some listener content, so I started a story that begins with his death, and features zombies. The first bit of it is in VFTQ #72 and the rest will be here on Halloween.

That’s right. Two episodes in one month!

In this episode… Read more…

Sorry …

This is why I’m not podcasting for podiobooks.com … yet …

I should be able to get something up this weekend. The next chapter of Optinomicon is finished, just not recorded yet.

I’ve also been posting stuff to the Alternia Journal. I’ll probably end up recording a lot of it too…

Episode 17 – Optinomicon Chapter 10

Finally getting back to Em, Varrow and the rest in Optinomicon.

Chapter 9 ended with a monitor exploding in Em’s face as he went to turn it on. Now we’ll find out what happens and who’s still alive.

As always, music for Karak Speaks True is provided by the band Sushi Hours.

There’s also a promo for Karak Speaks True. Give it a listen and let me know what you think?

Episode 16 – Strange Talents

This week’s story was written by Alternia Comics founder and co-creator Alarin Avaril. I’m uncertain whether he wants his given name on the internets and he’s in Korea at the moment so I can’t exactly ask.

In this story, called Strange Talents, two of Earth’s heroes (Pivot and The American Marvel) discover their commander, Lightning Shard, has some strange talents.

I’m also working on a promo so I can get the word out on other podcasts.

Three freakin weeks?!

yes … it’s been three weeks and there still isn’t any new content. What the hell is up with that?

The silence hasn’t been entirely fruitless. I’m getting some good writing done, and should have a promo ready soon.

Stay tuned, and feel free to send hate mail if there isn’t a new episode by Friday night.
